PAC Launches “Saturday Morning Club”

The University of Georgia Performing Arts Center has created a new family concert series called the Saturday Morning Club. Designed for children ages 4-12, the series will feature performers from UGA's Hugh Hodgson School of Music and will give young audiences an inside look at what it takes to make music. "These fun concerts will be a great activity for the whole family to share," said George C. Foreman, director of the Performing Arts Center. "And I encourage parents and grandparents to come with their children." The Saturday Morning Club kicks off Oct. 26 at 10 a.m. with the UGA Wind Symphony. UGA alumna Heather McIntosh accepted as film composer for 2013 Sundance Institute

Hodgson School grad lands Sundance Institute fellowship

Hugh Hodgson School of Music alumna Heather McIntosh was recently selected for a Sundance Institute Film Composers fellowship, an honor that secures her a place at the 2013 Sundance Institute Music and Sound Design Labs.  The event, a joint effort between Sundance and Skywalker Sound, will pair McIntosh with a filmmaker for two weeks of intensive collaboration. "I was elated when I found out I was selected," McIntosh said. "I jumped around the house hooting and hollering, I think I even sang a bit of the Hallelujah chorus… all while still on the phone with the director of the Sundance Film Music Program. Praxis Exhibition at the Lamar Dodd School of Art

Gallery director Jeffrey Whittle's last curatorial project at the Lamar Dodd School of Art, the Praxis show has special significance and features works by a group of outstanding artists including Kate Windley, Leslie Snipes, Art Rosenbaum, Paul Murphy, Hatidza Mulic, Mary Ruth Moore, Erin McIntosh, Peter James McCarron, Eric Marty, Meredith Lachin, Phil Jasen, Jeremy Hughes, Steven Foutch, Maria Dondero, Donald Cope, Christopher Cogan, Kinzey Branham, Rebecca Brantley, Stanley Bermudez, Jorie Berman, and Daniel Barber. GMOA Staff on Double-Duty

  For Paul Manoguerra, the classroom in which he teaches his special topics art history course is a brief stroll down the hall from his office, located on the third floor of the Georgia Museum of Art (GMOA). Manoguerra works both as chief curator and curator of American art at GMOA and as a professor at the University of Georgia. He is well acquainted with both art history and teaching. “I was a Ph.D student at Michigan State University in American studies, and my concentrations were in American art history, U.S. history and museum studies while I was there,” he says. While earning his doctorate, he taught classes at Michigan State University, Lansing Community College, Kalamazoo College and Western Michigan University. Course…
